OK, first a disclaimer. This is just my private fork that I've been playing around with and it has now diverged quite drastically from the FGADDON version. I've been keeping it to myself because these changes were just to suit me. The fuel "fix" isn't a proper solution (the proper solution being to write a JSBSim fuel system). This was just my solution to making long 707 flights possible.

The approach I've been using is to fill up, take off, open the four main crossfeeds to use up the center tank, close them when center is dry and open up the two reserve tank feeds to replenish tanks 1 & 4. Always refuel using the truck, because it sets the quantities correctly and don't press the "balance" button on the fuel and paylaod dialog.

https://github.com/sanhozay/707

When I first rewrote the crossfeed code, I had the needles in the main tanks quite stable, but I tried it this afternoon and they do seem to be drifting when the engines are feeding from the center tank. It probably needs the flow increasing on line 973 of fuel-and-payload.nas so that it can keep up.

EDIT: I think it might be the engine type. I tested with the older RR Conway engines today but I used to fly a lot with the newer JT4 engines. I'll do some testing.

I don't know what I was smoking when I wrote this. If anyone can explain what I was trying to do and how (if?) it works, I'd be most grateful.

LMAO

No need to do smoking. Nasal scripts are enough to produce programmer's aphasia

There's certainly some Nasal congestion going on. :)

Oh, I see ... looks like the updates are not damped and now, with always more other stuff and a single-thread, it runs in Nasal in some delays. You are right, a JSB-fuel system would be a nice idea, but it would mean, you need four invisible dummy tanks not showing in the fuel dialog. Then just fill all fuel that comes from all open tanks per engine (for example main 1 and center to engine-dummy1) and feed the engines form those dummy tanks. Since the pressure is about the same on all lines unless a pump or a switch is off/cut (or the tank empty, it would be the same amount of fuel from each involved tank. The pumps would, if running, prevent fuel from flowing back into empty tanks, but has anyone an idea what if the pumps are switched off? That would be communicating pipes and I think, that would be a bad thing, given how low in the fuselage the center tank lies. So how was that prevented in a real 707?
So, it can be done, but it is a little bit bigger than I hoped for ... duuuh. Nevertheless, I want to fly 707 on that leg, sooo ... maybe a good idea to get this job done right?

I guess I'll have to find a civy 'liner that makes over 4500nm range in cruise.

Is there an Airbus 319LR?

Not that I'm aware. but the widebody A330 and/or A340 series should make the jumps. And they are littlemore-littleless enlarged 319s. :ugeek:

There are already a bunch of activities for me (IRL and FG) that day, so at 90% I won't attend.
