C-32J is my special VIP plane.
So I'll be there either in MD-10 or C-137R. Cannot find "better" alternatives for now.
Regards, Mav

8800 ft, that is less than 1000 meters! Just on the border of GA and Turbo Prop on my map. Expect many overruns, and dead pilots and passengers. I'll do it, with overheated brakes. But maybe for wide bodies a more realistic location is Cold Bay.

Edit:
Oops, i just realize that i miscalculate by a factor 3. 8800 ft is almost 3000 meters and quite sufficient for wide bodies. Anyway, Cold Bay is still a good alternative too :-)

Kind regards, Vincent

I will be joining this. This will be my first flightgear event. I am planning to come on 25th march in 777.

LMAO
Yes... on all accounts,

1. its about 3000 m long. The scheduled service in Juneau is mostly seaplanes, and GA all to turboprops. So you were also accurate there. [RL] Larger craft I've seen logged in here are 73x from ASA.

2. I can see myself overruning this runway, overheating the brakes and even catastrophically failing my landing attempt.
[Cherry on the cake: I'll be tired after flying 10h and thus I will be the most nervous-myself.]

3. But, on paper, it should be doable :D which makes it a real temptation

4. Cold Bay (PACD) is a good alternative, well located airport to divert if we get the chills :D. It's alternative to Anchorage, and its also pretty. It's also somewhat closer to PGSN than Juneau, and makes for a wee-lil-bit better distributed flight segments for Sat, and Sun; but Juneau has a certain something in the beauty surrounding the approach and subsequent take-off. If I recall correctly, Cold Bay is where J. Maverick landed during his participation on the last leg of the USA tour(?)

Best,
IH-COL

PS: I've never landed either of these airports in Flightgear. Not Cold Bay, nor Juneau.... Not even Portland Jetport :D

So I repeat to myself...

I better start practicing those landing skills.

The problem is, on the paper, a fully loaded 707 needs a little over 10000feet. However, with nasty tricks and b*** of steel, I guess, it can be done. The other "no-problem" we have is, that we have probably more pilots knowing Juneau than Cold Bay because Juneau is part of SkyBoat's Alaska Tourist Tour ;-)

Oh...
That's awesome!

(I am afraid I missed the Alaska Tourist's)... what's that on Fridays?

It will be my first time ever on either Cold Bay or Juneau, anyways.

The excitement in Juneau is not only that the runway is marginal. But also it is a real bay too... and water at each runway end meets the not perfect landings. :)

I looked at the airport on terraGIT. The layout is really good. The airport and surroundings is amazing (Juneau, I meant)

No worries Jwocky, the thick cold air will do the trick :-)

Okay, I just tried PAJN. The wind was almost non-existent, so I made it on the last ten feet. Since all other planes have probably a better weight to power ratio than the 707. it is okay. Problem with the 707 is, I had to get out first to the SE and climb before I could cross the mountains. And almost crashed the bird because I haven't flown her in such a long time.

I also read the flight parameters. FL330 is hopeless, my pressure system maybe makes it till FL300 with prayer, but rather FL280 and Mach 0.80 even at FL280 is not goona happen in the fist phase of the flight. So, given the length of the flight, is the 707 out?
