X-Plane and Flightgear competing for my joystick.

I don't know why this would be happening but I could use some help. I recently installed X-plane to start flying more professionally and to prepare myself for the real world ATC (because we only have full ATC during the FG weekend) and Flight Gear stopped accepting my input after a while.

I've been itching to do some VATSIM flying. But I'm a cheap bat's turd and refuse to pony up for a nice sim, and I hate that FG pretty much locks you into a 747. So no VATSIM yet.

Plus, as far as I can tell, FG has one of the biggest (maybe even the only) mp dogfighting community in a full-world sim. All other milsims are limited to specific maps. And that's my thing, so...

If you are into Airliners and ATC, try out P3D/FSX, you won't regret it :D
The Airliners are so much developed and functional in P3D/FSX.
To top it off, there is the beautiful scenery :D

We have got a small group from the FG community who fly in VATSIM.
P3D/FSX: me, Josh, Oscar
X-Plane : ACI, Turbo
we could enjoy your company ;)

I am not interested in Fighters so I have no idea about it.

Yeah Turbo will jump in on mumble and be like "I'm flying to so-and-so, here's some awesome screenshots!" So I go there in FG and it just pales in comparison.

I also log into the http://reddit.com/r/flightsim discord server when I'm flying, and get to oogle all their screenshots too.

FG definitely doesn't have the eye candy, but I still think it wins out on dogfighting/etc in a full-world sim.

Also, I love tinkering with planes and FG is great for that.

Well I haven't seen anything yet from the dog-fighting realm of FG that allows for WWI and WWII fighter aircraft with working hit counts from MG bullet hits. When you talk about dog-fighting, I thinking close-in turn fighting or boom and zoom attacks from <300 meters or closer. I'm also pretty bugged about the state of MG gun turrets in FG.

It'd be trivial to do, if the machine guns can fire bullets. We don't do damage-by-part, like shooting out the left wing, though.

And yes, furballs do reguarly occur with OPRF, despite the fact we aren't focused on WWI and WWII.

That may be true. Have you given DCS a try, is it not a full-world sim?

Yes I have, there are maps, it isn't full-world.
