Concorde, 747 and A380 vs Paro

Post here the craziest flight actions, we will make a poll at some point and do something with the pictures. Only hell knows what, but that's the nature of a Prize for outstanding Craziness!

Concorde, 747 and A380 vs Paro

Postby V12 » Thu Aug 10, 2017 4:45 am

In the Himalaya was nice sunny day for good flight. On the way from Bagdogra (VEBD) to dreaded Paro (VQPR) FL200 320 KIAS :

Over TAKTI - turning left to VOR PRO 108.4, Himalaya on the horizont :

VOR PRO 10 miles ahead, where is the valley with Paro river ???

Ahaaa, here it is, nose down, let's start the descent (I hope not last) :

Second pilot is god, show must go on - tight turn to the Paro valley for final approach :

Paro, roger, cleared for land on 33, BAWV12 :

He said "runway in sight"
I looked at the screenshot and was "where?"

And here : http://www3.zippyshare.com/v/A3Tlr3XC/file.html is B747-8i fg videotape with flight from VEBD via VQPR to ZULS. Ofcourse with landing (33) and take off (15) from Paro.

A380 has landed. At Paro ! And one Concorde pilot observed this landing...

Of course, there https://fgtracker.ml/modules/fgtracker/ ... ID=6932639 is flightlog.

First take off from Paro with A380 was dissaster - I hit some trees. Second attempt was flawless. Land in Paro with B747 was more difficult than with A380, because Airbus has very powerfull reversers and brakes, I think, very unrealistic. But landing speed 140 KIAS at full flaps is great advantage for 380...

You can say that again. There is more to unrealism. I noticed many jumbo sized aircraft behave light as a Cessna in these flying games. You can imagine that landing such Jumbo is not any harder than landing a Cessna. No planning ahead necessary for your movements, no inertia, just correct in a twitch.

For some realism in heaviness, i can recommend:

https://github.com/soitanen/737-800

I'm sure you'll be able to land it on Paro. But then at least you will have felt that it is not as easy as it seems in a game plane without any inertia.

Kind regards, Vincent

Vincent,
How does it compare to your beloved 777 with regards to FDM
FG Pilot (2011-2018)
Prepar3d (2015 - 2023)
MSFS2020 (2020 - )

Look here SHM, it is not easy to find a good fdm in these flying games. I tried dozens of jetliners in fg, and the one was worse than the other. Many planes even showed counter natural behaviour. So i settled for the 777 (and the 747-8i is fine too). At least these planes did not show counter natural behaviour, but reasonable decent behaviour i would say. Even though the heaviness of inertia was still much lacking.

Now i stumbled upon Soitanens 737, and found natural behaviour and the right amount of inertia. So this is not just reasonable behaviour, but near realistic behaviour.

Kind regards, Vincent

Yes, landing with 747 was very difficult. When I fly under 170 KIAS on final descent and tried to level plane, it lost lift and fall down before runvay with engines on full throttle. Plane's inertia worked well.
But speed over 180 KIAS is too much for short runway. There is 10 kts window and is necessary to hit them as precise as possible.

I will try 777 and 737 soon.

EDIT 1 :
Tested 2 version :
- most recent B737-800YV - fly like sportcar drive
- Soitanen's version B737-800 fly very good, inertia is far better than on YV version and ofcourse A380.

With YV had landed in Paro without troubles, with Soitanen's B737 shoul be fine too.

EDIT 2 :
Landed in Paro with Soitanen's 737, but A/P working very bad. Flightlog is here :

Image

EDIT 3 :
Tested both version with better joystick, fly similar. In this second test, A/P on Soitanen's version worked flawless.

It is true that many systems are not very much developed in this plane. But i put up with it because i enjoy the fdm very much. The A/P works fine enough for my use. I just put in speed, heading and alt, and it works to climb out, cruise and the bulk of the descent. At both ends i fly manual.

In fact i wonder what you used the A/P for at Paro. I turn the A/P off before the VOR, so that i am stabilized manual at the start of the glide.

Anyway, i hope you enjoyed the ride.

Yes, i already wondered about that. It0uchpods has worked on it to restore the original behaviour in the YV version. I still find the YV version feel a bit lighter. But it had improved a lot lately.

Kind regards, Vincent
