Hey all,

If you're interested, I've created a FlightGear Discord server. The invite link is:

https://discord.gg/cPTy5WH

Currently looking for admins and mods. Also taking suggestions for channels.

how is this one working? I've never tried.

I tried for coms: fgcom, teamspeak and mumble. In that order. I've been very happy with the later.

It's working well. We've had 21 people log in so far, lots of screenshots and useful discussion. Most of the regulars have completely disregarded mumble in favor of Discord.

You can try it without registering or downloading a client by clicking the link in the first post. Feel free. :)

There's also Slack for the devs if anyone is interested... ;)
I agree that the Discord server is good.

Okay, can someone tell those older guys like me in a step by step explanation what to do to get in there? Slack and Discord? I feel a bit lost here and I lack the time to figure everything out on myself.

For discord, just click the link. It'll ask you for a username that you want to use. There's an in-browser app that doesn't require installation, and no email required if you don't want to.
There are chat channels that start with # listed on the left, just click into it and you can see the convo. It keeps chat history, so you'll be able to see everything that people have been talking about.

Slack is similar to Discord but without voice channel, but it's possible to do free calls. You just have to send me your e-mail address and I'll send you an invitation to join the server. It has a browser app too like Discord but can also be sued on smartphone or PC app as well.
Cheers, Mav

I suggest you people to try it out too ;)
Maybe we can move our events over there if all are happy.

Pros:
  • Free. Absolutely Free.
  • Voice and Text Channels.
  • Clear Audio.
  • Saves all messages.
  • Send images and code easily.
  • BOTs :D
  • Easily Kick and Ban Trolls.
  • Github Push notifications

Cons:
Couldn't find any.

I don't care much for discord. I use my TeamSpeak with quite some friends. Otherwise, I use Mumble.

If there's a meeting on discord, I'll join it.

I like TS's WAYYY better permissions system.

The question is not which is best, but which is most accepted at the moment. For now that seems to be Mumble. Many atc's are on it. If many atc's switch to some other talk system, then that is that. But for now it is hard to switch everyone again. After switching from fgcom to Mumble.

Kind regards, Vincent
