Some hints for flying with the SL-11, SL-20 and L30 Zeppelins:
  • Use the AP with heading-lock and pitch-lock (not altitude-lock)
  • AP can be reached with F11 or the menue entry
  • You can adjust the heading when under AP by moving the mouse over the needle axle of the Magnetic-Compass and turn the mouse-wheel.
  • You can adjust the static trim with Numpad-7 and Numpad-1
  • Don't use "AK" throttle unless needed, "Voll" throttle is much more ecconomical.
  • All these airships can drop bombs. Open/Close bombbays with "b", select a bomb with "j" and drop all selected bombs with "J".
  • for SL20 and L30, the "Watch-Officer" view has walk-view, you can walk around in these whole airship.
  • Esp. for the Zeppelin-Event: Altitude is your best protection, you should reach Attack-Altitude as soon as possible, at least when reaching Calais.

Maximum static altitude:
  • SL-11 4000 m (13300 ft)
  • SL-20 5300 m (17200 ft)
  • L30 5300 m (17200 ft)
Small tutorial flying these airships:

After startup of FG:
  • Switch on the Hud. (BTW the readings of that HUD are metric, e.g height is in m)
  • Switch AP on and set it to your desired heading and pitch-hold of 0
  • Wait till the lift gets stable.
  • Do a weight off with Shift W
  • Release mooring with Shift Y
  • Drop ballast with Shift E and Shift D
  • Refill ballast with CTRL W
  • Wait until the ship reach an altitude of 100 m or more.
  • Start engines and set throttle to "Voll"
  • Wait until the speed goes over 40 km/h
  • Set pitch-hold to 5
  • Keep lift to around 2000 kg until you are 500 m below your desired altitude.
  • Set pitch-hold to 0 when lift is around 300 kg.
During the flight the airship will slightly rise as the consumption of fuel makes it
lighter, so you might vent off some hydrogen from time to time.

And don't worry about the fuel, the default amount of fuel in the tanks is more than enough
for the roundtrip EBKT-EGLC-EBKT. I've done that trip with more than half of the fuel
left when arriving back at EBKT.

Hope these hint will help you.

The ship on the image is SL21, the sister ship of SL20. So if you use the SL20 you are in that one.
SL11 is from 1916, SL20 is from late 1917. Much better for a London Raid.

Thanks Franz for clearing that up, I should note also that Franz Schmids airships all have auto mixture, so the engine's carburetors are at the proper fuel air mixture for altitude. My airship hasn't that function and if flown will need to be leaned as you climb.

I guess, Lesbof planned we'll launch from EBTK

January 20, 2018 at about 17:00 UTC or 9:00 AM Pacific I'll be uploading links and directories for the scenery additions for those wanting to add them before the event.

The default launching spots are Kortrijk-Wevelgem EBKT and Southend with optional parking at an alternate scenery mod at Stow Maries Great War Air Museum's private airfield.

I would like to extend a invite to those who do not want to fly, there will be a Thornycroft AA truck with a '6 pounder' AA gun on the back. The AA gun tracks with mouse look in the turret view and shoots live ammo that should at least explode when it intercepts an MP object in it's path. I'm hoping to also have a searchlight truck, depends on how well the light beam animations work in MP.

following Franz' instructions above I got the SL11 on its way to the skies.
Successful test run :D

Thanks for solving my main problem on the dawn of the Zeppelin Raid,

Best,

PS: A cautionary word, everyone. My SL11 is full of He H2.

Shouldn't it be full of H2?

Weather for EBKT LFQQ 191600Z AUTO 25011KT 9999 FEW038 BKN210 06/M01 Q1010TEMPO 24015G25KT 4000 SHRA BKN013 BKN030CB The wind will be a particular nuisance.

So how is everyone for loading the custom scenery? Should we give the airbase at Merelbeke a pass?

How about Southend and Stow Maries?

It would be fun to try and catch the Zeppelins before they cross the channel using the Morane-Saulnier L like RNAS pilot Reginald Warneford's lucky bombing of one in late 1915.
