If memory serves, Josh told me that he had heard of a way to connect Flight Gear to Vatsim, but it is very complicated. If anyone wants to help with the search to connect the two it would be greatly appreciated.

You appear on VATSIM as a 747, no matter what plane you fly. Some people don't care, but that's a deal breaker for me.

@SHM, that is true. its impossible on mac. I Believe it is possible on linux, but i don't know for sure. There is a wiki page about it, just search "SquakGear." There should be a "help" section, but that's as far as I can go for now.

@OPFOR77 that's not true. I have been on vatsim and I see everyone as either an A320 or a Cessna. It depends on whether or not you file your type correctly.

The FlightGear to VATSIM client reports your plane as a 747 to the VATSIM server, no matter what. It's inherent in the design of the client. FG uses something call SquawkBox747 as its official client, and by design, SquawkBox747 reports you as a 747. You can file as whatever you want, but you're still sending to VATSIM internally that you're a 747.

Also, you will piss of ATC.

FG has no SID/STAR.
Very old and missing waypoint data AIRAC.
Most planes unrealistic.

I don't see the point.
