OMG, i am doomed

My gf has booked me on some "real" 737-800 simulator next week in Lelystad, The Netherlands. You know, the place of the yearly flightsim event.

She expects me to land her safely. But how can i do, if i have not learned the feel of the plane yet? Really a challenge this is.

Kind regard, Vincent

Yes the flying bit will be great. Yet i wonder if my first landing will be on the two fat stripes. We'll see. A great experience it will be surely.

Kind regards, Vincent

Wow, that's nice.

I tell my wife about simulators and she just stares at me. :(

Just remember to arm the speed breaks and set auto breaks to 1, flaps as required, gear down at flaps 10 (there will be an alarm if they are not when you set flaps 15) landing speed about 130 kts (use auto throttle until 1000 ft) and you should do fine. I would not be surprised if you left your 777 behind for Gabriel's 737-800 after you finish this!

130 kts

NOOOO
in a NG, use at least 135ish, or you will hit the tail. It's a design "feature"

Also, You can use the autothrottle up to however you want, but it does not autoretard. Knowing Vincent, he'll disable it before then!

Enjoy your flight!

Kind Regards,
Josh

In relation to this flying next weekend, i am training steering left handed now. It actually works quite well. Just need to get the twist for x-wind better in that left hand. But it is not important now, because a real simulator has pedals.

The most interesting thing i notice, is that my right hand is horrible at supporting tasks. Throttle control is bad and reversers go in late. Really odd. As if the right hand says: Alright, the speed is going down, but it does not take automatic action. Must have to do something with brain halves i suppose. My left brain half wants to be the boss and steer, and it sabotages when it has to do supporting tasks :-)

Ow, and btw, about speeds, i'll just do what the instructor says. That should be good.

Kind regards, Vincent
