Re: Old good FSX

But weather discontinuity - FG has live metar decoder - source for AW's basic data exists. And again - next almost ruined flight - The 20,000 foot drop in altitude really is indicative of a problem with the autopilot rather than FG itself. It's hard to debug this; but I've never had a problem with ...

Re: A new Flight Simulator

I can see that getting the licencing right is important; but IIRC this is one of the reasons for the blanket GPL/LGPL in FG; to keep the licencing simple. @Israel - probably you should investigate building something a prototype using Panda3d with tobspr's render pipeline; with a 100km square region ...

Re: A new Flight Simulator

Israel, I'm not saying "why bother" at all. What I am saying is "be aware how long the road is before you start your journey", I'm informing you that it is a massive undertaking - but I'm not definitely not saying "why bother". Not sure i understand why jsbsim and 3d ex...

Re: A new Flight Simulator

Ok this is the simple version; I've removed all of the connections and the multiple models.

Re: A new Flight Simulator

This is just a quick sketch that I put together. This does not mean that I'm volunteering to work on this because I'm not; it's easy and quick to draw one of these but it represents tens of thousands of hours work to build it. All of the boxes, even the models probably have multiple components withi...

Re: A new Flight Simulator

I've had some brief discussions with an FG developer. ... Thanks for you interest, Peter Yeah that was me. I offered to help code it - but that the result would have to be GPL - and I'm not sure if Peter would be willing to open up JoinFS. I'll write to him again when I've got enough time to think ...

Re: A new Flight Simulator

I'll try to give you an unbiased answer. So firstly I'll answer your original points: You're wrong that FG isn't designed in a future proof way; it's modular and well architected and parts can be replaced. I'd be interested to know what you specifically think isn't 'future proof'. The fact that FG c...

Re: Jomo is no more

I'll miss jomo; I've been scolded by him (when spawning in at 10k over EDDF) and equally had a very pleasant and well guided approach. Most ATC's are not very good; however one time someone was ATC'ing at KSFO and I requested permission to land, the ATC response was "please use correct procedur...

Re: AirAsia flight returns to Perth after mid-air scare

... Which still doesn't explain why the pilots would chose such a moderate descend rate if the thing they have pressure loss. Although I haven't checked the procedures I would imagine that the cabin pressure gauge would be a valuable reference for deciding the required descent rate. ISTR that there...
